Eduroam - Educational network Internet Roaming Access

Eduroam is a consortium of international institutions within the educational and research community providing free access to each other's secured wireless networks by logging in with a user's home institution login and password.

Eduroam Instructions for IIASA Windows Vista and Windows 7

  • In the Control Panel, open Network and Internet.
  • Click View Network Status and Tasks.
  • Click Manage Wireless Networks in the left pane.
  • Click Add.
  • Select Manually Create a Network Profile.
  • Enter the Network name: eduroam.
  • Chose Security type: WPA-Enterprise or WP2-Enterprise. (leave the Security Key field empty).
  • Click the Next button.
  • Click Change connection settings.
  • Click the Security tab.
  • Unfold Chose a network authentication method and chose Microsoft Protected EAP (PEAP)
  • Click Settings
  • Uncheck Validate server certificate
  • Click Configure …
  • Uncheck Automatically use my Windows logon …
  • Click 3x OK and the Close Buttons
  • To connect to just defined network, click the network icon on the right hand side of the task bar, click on eduroam and click Connect
  • Enter your IIASA username and password into the window which has just popped up and click OK
