Kazuhiko Takeuchi receives MIDORI Academic Prize

Chair of the Japan Committee for IIASA, Kazuhiko Takeuchi, receives the prestigious 2021 MIDORI Academic Prize for his achievements in "practicing landscape ecology and developing it into sustainability science, to realize a society in harmony with nature."

Kazuhiko Takeuchi, Chair of the Japan Committee for IIASA and current President of the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), receives the prestigious 2021 MIDORI Prize for Biodiversity

Takeuchi was awarded the prize by the Prime Minister of Japan on 23 April 2021 for his achievements in "practicing landscape ecology and developing it into sustainability science, to realize a society in harmony with nature.”

The MIDORI Prize is a biennial international prize to honor individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity at global, regional or local levels. The aims of this Prize are to extend the developmental influence of the individual’s efforts to various projects relating to biodiversity throughout the world, and to raise awareness about biodiversity.

"On behalf of IIASA, I would like to extend my and our collective congratulations on being recognized with this great honor for Prof. Takeuchi's lifelong contribution to sustainability science and SATOYMA Initiative. This is a great achievement," says IIASA Director General Albert van Jaarsveld.
