Samuel Gueret joined the IIASA Energy, Climate, and Environment Program in 2021 as a researcher in the Pollution Management Research Group. He has been involved in carrying out guiding research on the interactions between environmental management, energy modeling, and climate policy.
Gueret contributed to the development of the optimization module of the Greenhouse Gas and Air Pollution Interactions and Synergies (GAINS) integrated assessment model to explore the co-benefits and trade-offs of air pollution abatement control options and identify cost-effective scenarios that meet predefined environmental or health objectives.
Currently, he is actively involved in two European research projects. He contributes to the cumulative impact assessment of (i) carbon neutrality pathways prioritizing the Energy Efficiency First principle, as well as of (ii) shipping emissions on both atmospheric and marine environments, supporting EU Member States in their adoption of sustainable practices.
He holds dual master's degrees. In 2020 he graduated from the Free University of Brussels with a master's degree in Chemical Engineering, where as part of his thesis, he worked on developing methods for estimating food web fluxes describing the Vietnamese coastal ecosystem, laying the groundwork for enhanced fisheries management policies. He also holds a master's degree in Piano Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels.
