Dr. Nadejda (Nadya) Komendantova is the leader of the Cooperation and Transformative Governance (CAT) research group within the Advancing Systems Analysis (ASA) program. Her research interests include participatory, multi-risk, compromise and cooperation oriented governance for complex policy challenges such as energy security, climate change mitigation and adaptation, technological innovations or digitalisation. Dr. Komendantova joined IIASA in 2008 as a research scholar and since then had a number of progressively responsible positions including a project leader, an elected member of the Internal Research Council at IIASA and currently a research group leader. Since 2013 Dr. Komendantova also was a senior research scholar at ETH Zurich.
Dr. Komendantova is the author of over 140 publications, among them in the Global Corruption Report (Transparency International), the Global Assessment Report (GAR) report, input papers for the United Nation Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR), the chapter on risk governance for the global report issues by the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery of the World Bank and contribution to the Global Renewable Energy Report (REN21). She is the author of the OSCE Handbook on Protection of Electricity Networks from Natural Hazards and the team leader of the Strategy of Industrial Development of the Kyrgyz Republic. She has a number of peer-reviewed publications in such journals as Cleaner Production, Energies, Energy Policy, Natural Hazards, Risk Analysis, Energy Research and Social Science, Renewable and Sustainable Energies Reviews, Renewable Energy, International Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction etc.
Dr. Komendantova received awards from the Academic Council of the United Nations and the Julius Raab Foundation. She is an invited reviewer to the the 5th and 6th IPCC reports from the Federal Ministry of the Republic of Austria on Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology. She also received invitations to speak at a number of policy forums at the Directorate General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission, NATO, Energy Community Secretariat, Energy Charter Forum, OSCE, OPEC and UNIDO.
