Luca Guillaumot is a guest research scholar in the Water Security Research Group of the IIASA Biodiversity and Natural Resources Program. He is participating in the development of the large-scale hydrological Community Water Model (CWatM) as well as its calibration from regional to global scales, in order to forecast water resources. In this framework, he is strongly involved in the representation of groundwater systems and their interactions with the surface.

In 2018, he obtained his PhD from Universite de Rennes, France. He studied groundwater-surface interactions through modeling, from kilometer to continental scale. He continued to work at Universite de Rennes as a postdoctoral fellow in 2019, focusing on the modeling of nitrates in Brittany, an important agricultural region on the French West Coast, as part of the French government's plan against green algae. The model was calibrated against different observations allowing the inference of nitrate transit time and removal within different catchments. The model was used to predict future nitrate concentrations in rivers considering different scenarios.

From 2019-2020, he worked as a research scholar in the former IIASA Water Program. He contributed to the development of the CWatM and application in several regions, and to the Inter-Sectoral Impact Model Intercomparison Project (ISIMIP).

More generally, he is interested in how measured data can provide information on hydrological processes, in particular the informative capacity of different data sets for physically based hy-drological models. Indeed, different kinds of observed data, such as water levels in boreholes, water quality, streamflow, surface deformation, satellite data, or qualitative observations, can be used for hydrological model parameterization.
