Biography

Elvis Modikela Nkoana is an alumni of the SA YSSP initiative and he is currently at IIASA as part of a prize he was awarded to further work on governance of renewable energy transition with Dr. Nadejda Komendantova-Amann.

Mr. Elvis Modikela Nkoana studied at the University of Limpopo, University of the Western Cape, and Durham University in the UK. He is currently a lecturer at the University of South Africa in Tshwane (Pretoria) and a PhD candidate in Environmental sciences at the University of Antwerp in Belgium. He works in participatory governance research that includes the application of climate change adaptation tools (a form of decision support tool) by development cooperation organisations in urban and rural communities in the global South, participatory integrated assessment (including impact and sustainability assessments), climate change risk perceptions, complex governance issues in renewable energy technology deployment in South Africa, environmental education, integrated water resources management, university-community engagement, Africanisation & decoloniality, context-specificity, and Africa-EU migration trends.

Mr. Elvis Modikela Nkoana has published an interim report with IIASA entitled “Impacts of environmental education on perceptions of climate change risks in rural and township communities in Limpopo Province, South Africa” supervised by Dr. Nadejda Komendantova-Amann and Dr. Vain Jarbandhan. His other publications can be found in the Environment, Development, and Sustainability journal by Springer.
