Carlos Nobre elected as a foreign member of the Royal Society

Brazilian climatologist and former IIASA Council Member for Brazil, Carlos Nobre, has been elected as a foreign member of the Royal Society. He is the first Brazilian scientist to join the world’s oldest scientific society since the 1800s.

Raising climate ambitions could save millions of lives

Adopting policies that are consistent with achieving the Paris Agreement and prioritize health, could annually save 6.4 million lives due to healthier diets, 1.6 million lives due to cleaner air, and 2.1 million lives due to increased physical activity, according to new research.

Why are we still failing to stop deforestation?

While national and international efforts to reverse the trend of deforestation have multiplied in recent years, there is still no clear evidence to suggest that these initiatives are actually working. A new paper published in One Earth, calls for a radically different approach that focuses on our understanding of how individuals make their choices about forests and livelihoods.
