Exploring National and Global Actions to reduce Greenhouse gas Emissions (ENGAGE)

ENGAGE is a global consortium of international and multidisciplinary leading research groups, that is coordinated by IIASA, aims to co-produce knowledge for designing cost-effective, technologically sound, socially and politically feasible pathways that can meet the objectives of the Paris Agreement. ENGAGE will also quantify avoided climate change impacts at the regional and national levels and identify concrete policy portfolios that maximize co-benefits and minimize trade-offs.

Finding solutions to pollution caused by shipping in Europe (EMERGE)

IIASA is partner and work package leader on EMERGE - Evaluation, control and Mitigation of the Environmental impacts of shipping, an innovative 4-year research project looking to find solutions to pollution caused by shipping. IIASA will collaborate with 18 organizations across Europe on the project which will be funded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 program.

Pollution Management in the Hanoi Region (GAINS Vietnam)

The fast economic growth in Vietnam’s urban areas and the the lack of control of polluting sources are causing public health problems and significant environmental degradation, including greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, undermining the potential for sustainable socioeconomic development of the country and impacting the poor.

Resource nexus for transformation to circular, resilient, and liveable cities in the context of climate change (RECREATE)

Urban metabolism is a model to study the flow of energy and resources as they enter cities, how they are used and consumed, and how they exist cities as wastes. By studying urban metabolism, we can get a better understanding of how resources are used and ways to reduce negative environmental impact. As the fraction of people living in cities continue to expand around the world, urban metabolism analysis can help decision makers develop cities to become resource efficient, climate friendly, resilient and equitable.
