The International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) and the Iran National Science Foundation (INSF) are jointly organizing a two-day Workshop on Urban Resilience through Applied Systems Analysis in Tehran, Iran. This event is part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of IIASA.

IIASA-INSF Workshop will bring together IIASA and Iranian researchers, as well as other local stakeholders, to look into how urban resilience could be achieved through applied systems' approaches. Participants will discuss urban complex systems, elements of urban systems, and the necessity of systems approaches for achieving urban resilience.

The following questions will be the focus of the Workshop:

  • Urban resilience and energy;
  • Urban resilience under natural disasters; and
  • Urban resilience and water and climate issues.

IIASA participants and contributors to the Workshop include Keywan Riahi (Energy, Climate, and Environment Program Director), Nadejda Komendantova (Cooperation and Transformative Governance Research Group Leader, Advancing Systems Analysis Program), Reinhard Mechler (Systemic Risk and Resilience Research Group Leader, Advancing Systems Analysis Program), and Mikhail Smilovic (Research Scholar, Water Security Research Group, Biodiversity and Natural Resources Program).

The objective of the event is to strengthen the general knowledge and understanding of advanced systems analysis and relevant application skills. It will also provide training and hands-on experience to participants.
