Biography

Robert Sakic Trogrlic is a research scholar in the Systemic Risk and Resilience (SYRR) Research Group of the IIASA Advancing Systems Analysis (ASA) Program. His research focuses on multi-hazard, multi-sector, extreme, and systemic risk management within the Multi-hazard and Systemic Framework for Enhancing Risk-informed Management and Decision-making in the EU (MYRIAD-EU) Project. His research interests include multi-hazards and their interactions in multi-risk frameworks, people-centered disaster risk reduction, knowledge co-production, and novel approaches for integrating physical and social sciences in disaster and climate research, policy, and practice.

Prior to joining IIASA, he worked as a postdoctoral research associate at King’s College London’s Department of Geography in the UK, researching multi-hazard interactions and risk informed development in tomorrow’s cities. Before King’s College, he worked as a climate and resilience officer with Practical Action, an international development NGO. He is also a former vice president of the Water Youth Network (WYN), where he co-founded the Disaster Risk Reduction Team.

In 2020, Sakic Trogrlic received his PhD from Heriot-Watt University in the UK, with a thesis focusing on the role of local knowledge in community-based disaster risk reduction in Malawi. He is an applied researcher in disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation with an interdisciplinary background. Originally trained as a civil engineer (BSc and MSc in Civil Engineering from the University of Split in Croatia), he also holds an interdisciplinary MSc in Flood Risk Management from four European universities (IHE Delft, The Netherlands; Dresden University of Technology, Germany; the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (BarcelonaTech), Spain; and the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia).
